Product Description
3Mâ„¢ VHBâ„¢ Tape 5962 is a 0.062 inch (1.6 mm) thick black double-coated acrylic foam tape featuring a modified acrylic adhesive on both sides and a PE film liner. It is designed for permanent bonding of a wide range of materials, including metals, glass, plastics, and painted surfaces, even those with powder coatings. The highly conformable foam ensures excellent surface contact, even when substrates are slightly irregular. This tape is part of the 3M 5952 family, known for its strong adhesion, durability, and versatility in industrial and assembly applications.
Key Features
- High-Strength Permanent Bonding: Provides a durable and long-lasting adhesive bond capable of replacing mechanical fasteners such as screws, rivets, and welds.
- Aesthetic Advantage: Virtually invisible fastening maintains clean and smooth surfaces without visible hardware.
- Versatile Adhesion: Bonds effectively to high, medium, and medium/low surface energy substrates, including metals, plastics, and powder-coated paints.
- Excellent Conformability: The acrylic foam core compensates for surface irregularities, ensuring uniform adhesion.
- Weather & Moisture Resistance: Creates a reliable seal against water, moisture, and dust, suitable for outdoor and harsh environments.
- Easy to Use: Pressure-sensitive adhesive bonds instantly on contact, allowing immediate handling strength.
- Temperature Resistance: Withstands short-term exposure up to 149°C (300°F) and long-term exposure up to 93°C (200°F).
- Cleaner Assembly: Eliminates the need for drilling, grinding, screwing, welding, or liquid adhesives, reducing cleanup and assembly time.
Typical Applications
3Mâ„¢ VHBâ„¢ Tape 5962 is used across various industries for high-performance bonding and assembly, particularly where mechanical fasteners or visible joints are undesirable.
Common Applications Include:
- Electronics & Appliances: Bonding metal or plastic enclosures, panels, and structural parts.
- Automotive & Transportation: Attaching trim, emblems, seals, and lightweight structural components.
- Construction & Architecture: Mounting panels, stiffeners, glass, or decorative materials.
- Signage & Displays: Attaching letters, nameplates, and display elements with a smooth finish.
- Metal Fabrication: Replacing welds and screws for cleaner, corrosion-free joints.
- General Industrial Use: Any application requiring strong, durable, vibration-dampening bonds between dissimilar materials.
