The other more common and non-technical name for “fluorinert electronic liquids” is known as “heat transfer fluids”. These are the PFC or perfluorocarbons and are mainly used in immersion cooling applications.

The fluorinert electronic liquids are more beneficial than other liquids such as mineral oils, silicone oil, methylene chloride or MeCI, and TCE or trichloroethylene.

What Are Heat Transfer Fluids?

The fluorinert electronic liquids or the more common name heat transfer fluids are synthetic minerals that have some particular set of characteristics in comparison to other fluids.

It successfully cools down the heat-generating components and removes the accumulated heat.

Using fluorinert electronic liquids for Immersion Cooling in Data Centers is a better and more efficient way than air-cooling. These provide safe operation and do not require monitoring and human interference for the completion of the process.

What Are The Benefits of Fluorinert Electronic Liquids?

Modern manufacturing units and factories are using smart methods to cool down their equipment to avoid breakdown due to overheating. The thermal management solutions have now started using fluorinert electronic liquids for cooling.

Semiconductor manufacturers and data centers are the most common use cases. The Novec fluorinert electronic liquids from 3M are dielectric and non-flammable.

These are the most used liquids for their feature of being safe for the person and the working environment. Another benefit is the non-toxic nature of this liquid.

This fluid requires very little upkeep and provides a dependable performance.  The high resistance protects against the damage of electronic equipment. It protects the integrated circuits in case of leakage of other failures of the system.

The electronic liquids provide the right atmosphere for dense electronics, supercomputers, and power converters.

The Advantages

The 3M Novec Fluids Have Several Advantages Like:

You can reduce the wastage of the product by using the liquids for heat removal. The quality is improved and the output is better in comparison with another cooling method.

In my opinion, the best thing about this is that you can use the same fluid for various applications at different temperatures.

The same benefit also helps with reducing the maintenance of the system.

Use Cases of Electronic Fluids

Data Centers

The complex calculations running on the server make it extremely hot.

There are thousands of calculations and processes taking place simultaneously on the server and all this complexity generates excessive heat that can damage the system and internal components.

Semiconductor Manufacturing

Accurate performance is the key to smooth manufacturing. The electronic fluid needs to remain stable for a longer period.

Military and Defense

The military and defense application requires cooling that is reliable and has impeccable performance. Also in aerospace, there is no room for errors due to heating as it can be fatal. The fluorinert electronic liquids are useful in comparison to the other oil-based fluids.

Pharmaceuticals

The Novec electronic liquids are non-flammable and provide quite a safe working environment for the workers. There are processes in the pharmaceutical that require secondary loop and drying by using the freezing technique.

Conclusion

The fluorinert electronic liquids deliver excellent cooling performance in several applications. This enables a safe working environment and is a sustainable option.

This is a non-flammable, non-toxic, non-ozone-depleting electronic fluid that has dielectric characteristics. It also requires less maintenance than other cooling liquids.
